There are lots of us out there reinventing ourselves.
Witness the More Reinvent Yourself Conference that Betsey (my partner) and I attended this past Monday.
MIKA BRZEZINSKI
We had a ball. There were terrific speakers, women like Mika Brzezinski, who lost her high profile job as anchor on the CBS Evening News. It took two years for her to find another opportunity to get back in the business.
She finally realized that her work was important enough to her that her ego must go on the back burner. She was willing to take any job to get back into her chosen field.
Mika explained that sometimes you have to go all the way back to the bottom to begin your climb back, but you can never give up.
She is now co-host of Morning Joe and of The Joe Scarborough Show on ABC Radio.
BARBARA CORCORAN
Barbara makes you laugh so much you almost miss her incredible success story of rising from a counter girl in pig tails (a marketing ploy!) to selling her real estate business in New York City for a whopping $70 million!
In between the wisecracks, you’ll hear the amazing story of a woman who overcame rejection and who succeeded by giving others their due.
Barbara also shared her confusion when she reached her goal of being number one in her field and had sold her business, only to find she had lost her identity.
She then proceeded to do a very candid analysis of the traits that had made her successful and began to market them in a career that was perfect for them.
Faced with polite rejections – after all, you never know when you will need to be friends with a woman who has $70 million – she took numerous trivial positions until the perfect one came along. She is the real estate contributor for NBC’s Today and CNBC. She also writes a weekly real estate column for the New York Daily News and has published two books.
