On Writing…

I’m sure writing is many different things for many different people. For me, it is a way to create a world I’d like to explore, if only I could find it.

My first book, Wiregrass Country, started just that way. I was driving south on Interstate 75 when I got the urge to travel some back roads. Soon I was flying through farm country, broad fields stretching out to mysterious dark tree lines. I’ve never been able to resist dirt tracks overhung with trees. You know they’ve been there a while and you can’t help but wonder what’s at the end.

As I drove down a sandy track in middle Georgia, I hoped I would find a dilapidated old mansion, or even the remains of an ancient log cabin – and, a story was born.

Right now, I have several story plots in mind, and I am turning them around like a savored bit of candy, deciding which adventure to explore next.
