One of the things that I have been doing to reinvent myself is to resume training as a coach. I started this process in 2002, but only made it halfway through the courses.
My current business was producing more income than I could turn my back on, so I dropped out of coaching school. I had mixed feelings about that, because I have always enjoyed helping others find their way, or start their own businesses.
Recently, my interest in coaching and/or consulting re-asserted itself. I formed a partnership with my friend Betsey. She is also reinventing herself. Her first step was to go back to school to get a Masters in Counseling. She soon realized that the traditional counseling path did not appeal to her because she enjoys consulting more. We felt we would make a dynamite team because our styles are very different, but compatible.
Betsey is very sympathetic and nurturing, while I am to the point and action oriented. So, we formed “in your wildest dreams” (visit our website at inyourwildestdreams.us). Our first activity together will be a one hour workshop at the Phenomenal Women Conference being held by Kennesaw State University April 16th, on campus.
Other than that, I have been thinking of my strengths and what I might have to offer as a coach/consultant. There is quite a difference between the two. Simply put, a coach supports the coachee in making decisions and resolving issues, whereas a consultant provides solutions.
I am a little concerned that I may be a bit chicken. After all, this is a big step. I’m pretty comfortable in my existing environment. It’s scary to start over and have to brrrr “cold call”!
I think my first assignment to myself will be to find a way to warm up those calls. An “aha” moment! Just what I need – inspiration – like this delightful image from Ian Claridge
