When I was a little girl, growing up in a household which consisted only of my divorced mother and myself, the thought of going to Europe was as remote as visiting the moon. Fortunately, reality has exceeded my expectations and I have made quite a few journeys to other parts of the planet.
Of all the places I have traveled, like so many others, I fell in love with Italy. I have been twice, first to Sorrento and the surrounding areas such as Pompeii, the island of Ischia, and the Almalfi coast.
On the second trip, I visited Rome, Villa d’Este, Florence, and Montepulciano in Tuscany.
Just a month ago I began thinking that it was time for another Italian trip. However, like most people, my business has been off for the past year and I have been on a very tight budget.
Then two things happened almost at once – I got a substantial refund from my taxes and an email message from a photography acquaintance in New York, Holly Smith Pedlosky. Holly’s message was describing ten days of digital photography classes at the northern Italian paradise of Lake Como. I wondered out loud on Facebook, should I go?
My friends all sent back a resounding ‘Yes!!’ and of course they are right. I am sixty eight years old. It’s no longer feasible to postpone things in my life until a better time. There may not be a better time!
So, I committed. Then I shared my plans with another friend, who also wants to go. Now I will be enjoying Lake Como with a friend from high school who is of Italian heritage and has never been there.
I have to say, I believe that employing the principles of the positivity ratio that I have mentioned in other posts is changing my life radically for the better!
